The memorial series started with a conversation about dreams. It is rare for me to have a dream that does not include family, friends, or pets, who have passed away. I chose to shoot most of the series in over the top HDR in an attempt to capture a dream like state. I also wanted to highlight how the class system is reflected in our memorials. I hope you enjoy the series.

Mission Statement:
To document the city in an attempt to inspire an appreciation and understanding of the uniqueness of Detroit, her buildings, and her people.

Speramus meliora; resurget cineribus.
We hope for better things; it will arise from the ashes.

this series does an excellent job of highlighting the gang violence in Detroit.

@Chris Pereira: Chris, I think the street gangs are a little more low key here in Detroit. They do exist in a few areas, as does the violence that comes with it, but it’s not as much as in other U.S. Cities.

Sad but wonderfully done series, Ralph. Unfortunately we have far too many of these around here.

@Angela Anderson-Cobb: Yeah this is far too common. I met some amazing people and heard some pretty tragic stories doing this series.
