RIP

Ralph Jones (Detroit, United States) on 13 August 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

The memorial series started with a conversation about dreams. It is rare for me to have a dream that does not include family, friends, or pets, who have passed away. I chose to shoot most of the series in over the top HDR in an attempt to capture a dream like state. I also wanted to highlight how the class system is reflected in our memorials. I hope you enjoy the series.

Mission Statement:
To document the city in an attempt to inspire an appreciation and understanding of the uniqueness of Detroit, her buildings, and her people.

Speramus meliora; resurget cineribus.
We hope for better things; it will arise from the ashes.

this series does an excellent job of highlighting the gang violence in Detroit.

@Chris Pereira: Chris, I think the street gangs are a little more low key here in Detroit. They do exist in a few areas, as does the violence that comes with it, but it’s not as much as in other U.S. Cities. http://www.detroityes.com/mb/showthread.php?t=1378

Sad but wonderfully done series, Ralph. Unfortunately we have far too many of these around here.

@Angela Anderson-Cobb: Yeah this is far too common. I met some amazing people and heard some pretty tragic stories doing this series.
