Speramus meliora; resurget cineribus.
We hope for better things; it will arise from the ashes.

To document the city in an attempt to inspire an appreciation and understanding of the uniqueness of Detroit, her buildings, and her people.

Just-- another pleasant day. How they blend into one another, one indistinguishable from the next. The endless sunshine, the relentless puffy clouds in the azure. It must be hard for you.

@Bettina: Bettina, I posted this just for you. Spring, summer, and fall can be overwhelmingly beautiful in this area. Detroit is one hour away from lake Erie, and one hour the opposite direction from lake Huron, there are also many parks within the city. The above photo was taken on Belle Ilse, an island park designed by the same architect that designed NYC's Central Park. We have our fair share of pleasant days here but there are also those, shall I say unpleasant days to help up appreciate the pleasant ones that much more. If you have the time please refer to:

Another wonderful, honest depiction of Detroit! The Detroit the media loves to magnify does have hardened crime, rough and dirty places, places ravaged by criminal politicians and crippling public policies - but - there are also beautiful places of hidden sanctuary, examples of amazing heroism, and a spirit that will drive the restoration of Detroit. Ralph, thank you for never giving up on Detroit and being an example of that spirit.

Just for me? That's fantastic! :) I see what you mean. Belle Isle sure is belle. It's good to hear about Detroit. I agree with Dinah. Media, politicians, policies, forget them all. It's people like you, and people on this blog, who celebrate, reflect, and build a real life with their photography, better than any of the useless above. We are the witnesses and creators. And I look forward to more pleasant days from Detroit!

I was going to ask if that was Belle Isle and then saw it was in your comments. I'm glad to see that little piece of the city still offers some escape.
