Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

Such an impressive and powerful series, Ralph, I enjoy looking and re-looking at your slideshow of this...so gripping. And I am not sure how many observors have actually tried donning the coats, pants, boots, breathing apparatus that these guys and gals have to wear, but it adds a ton of weight to your frame..this, on top of trying to fight a roaring fire and smoke all in 90 degree heat ambient not including the heat from the fire!!..And tell me it does not take a hero!! These folks are the TRUE heroes for sure and you are to be commended over and over just for bringing that point to light if nothing elese....Well done, Sir!

@Denny Jump Photo: Thank you Sir! It does take a special type of person to put themselves in harm's way to help out others.

Ditto what Denny says. I echo the heros that the firemen and women are, but also YOU are heroic for sharing them with us. You give us such a candid realistic view of their faces. Your photos speak volumes of the emotions, the toll that the work takes on the human body, the human condition. Very inspiring. Have you considered making the series into a book or calendar? Something to be sold to raise funds to donate to these hardworking individuals? Hmmm??

@LauraS: http://socialdocumentary.net/exhibit/Ralph_Jones/1079 As far as publishing something larger, well we'll see...

Gary from Cochise County, United States

What I always notice, Ralph, is that you really do catch that seriousness of the firefighters when they are doing their job. That's what it's about and you get it every time.

@Gary: Thanks Gary, that's high praise coming from someone who fights fires! Be safe!

Judy aka L@dybug from Brooksville, Florida, United States

Do they all know you now, and do you need special permission to get into the midst of their activity?
You do not seem very far away from them. This is another great portrait for your heroes collection.
