From one sharp out to the others already in the thick smoke & work, your serie always breathtakes.

A winning street shot for sure *****!
I could imagine this being taken w/a 500mm lens, but you were dangerously close, Ralph. Is there no one telling you to get back and out of the way?

@Judy aka L@dybug: :(

PS: Do you listen to a police radio so you know where to go to get these shots?

18 Apr 2011 11:09am

@Judy aka L@dybug: I do listen to a DFD scanner but most of the time I see smoke and just follow it. I was on my way to my grocer when I saw the smoke for this fire, I arrived just as the first engine arrived.

Rick from Toronto, Canada

An incredible and very powerful image. One that reminds and reinforces : these are very brave people who do this job.

I will say this again, the city of Detroit has another valiant and dedicated servant - one who loves the city so much and who makes such qwonderful tribute to these heroes indeed...he is behind the shutter. But I so strongly agree, Raloh, These men and women all over the land are truly the heroic, unselfish warriors....This is so compelling!
I missed several days of yours, so I went back and put my yacky comments in each one of them...as you know a day without "Dennyspeak" is like a day without boredom! ;-)

ps - That Leica is impressive....can you tell me how far in feet you were away from this??

18 Apr 2011 12:27pm

@Denny Jump Photo: I love "Dennyspeak"! It's hard to say the distance, as you get caught in the moment. My best estimate is between 50 and 90 feet away. I know I left reeking of smoke.

Sometimes it feels like you are just too close, 120mm.. and yet I bet you could feel the heat. Is that Leica new? Not sure I noticed it before. Post photo exhibit?

Crazy powerful shot! Those 100-year-old frame houses are tinderboxes sometimes. This is quite an action shot to have gotten with your Leica.
