A compelling street portrait, to say the least! Wonderful in monochrome.

DULCIE from Danville, CA, United States

This is a singularly expressive portrait. It could be diabolical, but the spirit behind the mask seems to have a good energy.

That mask is definitely foreboding - wow...but I like the slight smile on the wearer ;-) I wonder what the C A stands for?? Beautiful portrait sir!

Now here's a memorable visage; probably would want him on "your side" in a fight.

A bit scary, is he a catcher ? His mask looks like he is. But the guy behind seems to be very cool and friendly. Nice mono and portrait.

ACK! Hopefully it's not too hot under that mask given the hot temps we've been having. Good choice to process in B&W.

Gary from Cochise County, United States

At first I thought this might be a self portrait, the mask being the camera you are behind, but I figured I shouldn't read too much into it and realize the portrait for what it is, an unusual display and intriguing image.
It fantastic, Ralph.

Oh, come on, Ralph. Give us more about this clever fellow. I love the sly smile and his headgear. What's his story? You are such a tease!

20 Aug 2011 2:47am

@LauraS: Sorry for the tease but there's not much of a story, I was leaving my favorite Mexican grocer when I spotted this guy, I stopped and asked if I could photograph him in his mask. I never asked why he was wearing it and he never volunteered that info. I took two photos, thanked him and we went our separate ways. I did get a sense from our brief encounter that he is a kind soul.

Céline from New York City, United States

Nice portrait !

Thanks, Ralph. I guess it is awkward at times to ask a story, isn't it? You are courageous and such a dedicated artist and humanitarian. Thanks for sharing.
