Field Trip

Posted by
Ralph Jones (Detroit, United States) on 8 May 2014 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

One of the most rewarding things going on in my life now is my involvement in teaching Detroit kids photography.
The end of the semester the kids will exhibit their work in some of the better galleries around town as well as The Detroit Institute of Arts (for now I can only dream of exhibiting there).
For the past few months my kids have mastered using DSLR's exclusively in manual mode, that's a skill that a lot of seasoned photographers, (myself included) have not yet mastered.

How often do you shoot in manual mode?

Mission Statement:
To document the city in an attempt to inspire an appreciation and understanding of the uniqueness of Detroit, her buildings, and her people.

Speramus meliora; resurget cineribus.
We hope for better things; it will arise from the ashes.

Classic rule of thirds framing and a great background texture, very simple and very nice indeed. Good to hear of your work with young photographers, going manual is pretty rare for me these day but I agree it's the best way to accelerate learning in the early stages.

Very exciting news! Sounds like a truly amazing experience. I always shoot in Aperture priority. :) But I'm going to work on throwing it into manual. Have a good day!

Great story to accompany this shot!! How nice to be able to exhibit! I admit that I shoot in manual mode maybe 10% of the time. :-(
